VR Narrow Gauge Passenger Stock

NBC, NC & NBB in 16mm scale, 1:19

Considering others if demand is there

can be made in other scales, eg. 1:20.5, 1:24

Steam And Things now have available our first "16mm"" products in 1:19
These are a large scale etched brass kit of the "Puffing Billy" NBC Gaurds / Passenger Van, the NC van and the five compartment NBB coach, as shown below; in the photo we show a test etch of the sides next to a 1/4" scale model.

But please please remember we are a bespoke etcher and designer and we can offer custom etches in "16mm"
You may consider straight forward wagon or van sides to assist you in your scratch building

All you need to do is ask, supply us information and we can do the rest

Model of NBC made up from one of our 1/4" scale kits next to a 16mm scale test etch; NBB in photo on right, followed by the NC

The ultimate! Live steam in the garden!

Specification of the kit is as follows:

  • Etched brass 16mm scale, 1:19. (other scales considered)
  • Material 0.7mm (28thou) brass amounting to 9 A4 sheets equivalent
  • Available in 0.5mm (20thou) as well - customers' requests - making a lighter vehicle
  • Total of 28 different etched parts, running to 70 odd if you count multiples
  • Whitemetal castings for roof lamps, brake hoses, bogie sides, centre buffers
  • Etched bogies for cast cosmetic overlays
  • Etched parts include detailing parts such as lamp irons, headcode boards, brake wheel, end gates, fall plates, underframe truss, etc. etc.
  • Etched roofs, floor and etched cosmetic rivet overlays also included
  • Wire for fine detailing such as handles etc.
  • Full written instructions running to 15 A4 pages with diagrams
  • Bogies available for 32 or 45mm wheelsets (designed around IP Engineering wheelsets and bearings)
  • Customers wishing to use adjustable 32/45mm wheelsets should specify the 45mm bogie
  • Standard transfers (with custom running numbers) or BESPOKE transfers / decals to suit your railway empire
  • Paint, bearings and wheels not supplied
  • Some modellers may wish to know the physical size of this model, to see if it'll "go" with their existing stock.
    Therefore the NBC is:

    Side 404mm long x 97mm high
End 101mm wide x 115mm high, to the top of the clerestory

Centre Buffer / Couplers are supplied with this kit. They are cast in whitemetal and supplied with a screws, nuts and brass hooks. These buffers are available as a stand alone product.

Wheels are not supplied as mentioned above, but we used IP Engineering wheelsets; go to www.ipengineering.co.uk
All steel wheels (disc), 24mm diameter; either 32mm gauge or 45mm or dual gauge sets. You'll also need to ask for 3/16" (4.8mm) brass (sleeve) bearings.

Please note, at first we will offer the NBB with Fox type bogies, as per NBC, as we get the impression many modellers in garden scales may wish to exchange bogies anyway; if there are modeller's who want the LWB 5ft bogie, then we will certainly consider making a master and casting same.

We have had a number of requests to supply without couplers and bogies/ trucks; this we can certainly do if required.

We've also had requests to supply only some etches, such as the sides and ends. We are happy to accomodate this, but since there are about 30 different parts in the kit (meaning well in excess of 60 total!), then we will quote on a case by case basis. However for sides and ends only, please refer to our price list

Click for more details and information on the kits in other scales and photos of completed 1/4" scale models.
NOTE however, we are just offering the NBC, NC and NBB at the moment (with the NAB and NBH subject to demand).

Kit, Buffer/Coupler are per price list. Use the link on the left or go to our blue navigation panel on the left. NOTE: The kit includes the couplers, as per specification above.

Due to the various scales (from 1:19 to 1:24) all masquerading as 16mm (!!) we have provided some salient dimensions above, to those who would like to know "how big" the model will be - this is specially pertinent, we presume, to freelance models with locomotives of various sizes.

Although the kit will be a kit in the strict sense, not a set of sides and ends, the modeller will have to consider some sort of structural strengthening due to the thin material (0.7mm, 28 thou brass) being used.
