The daily mail service on the Wangaratta to Whitfield (NG) line was provided by a Postal Trolley. The exact type of
trolley varied over the years, at one time even being a ganger's type trolley. In 1941 a trolley was designed and built
at Newport Workshops and this is the subject of this kit from Steam And Things.
A test etch and very preliminary test build is shown lower down this page. On the accompanying page we
have a selection of photos showing progress with the test build. All you need to do is click on this link
Although a specific one-off prototype - we feel that this type of vehicle will look "at home" on many NG layouts in 1:48,
whether VR based or not. It would look even quainter on a 1:43.5, 7mm layout!!
Kit specification in 1/4" is as follows:
Etched brass in 0.3mm (12thou)
Underframe from 0.5mm (20thou) nickel silver
Brass etches and special thin material for the roof
Van AND trailer!
Decals as on VR - custom decals / transfers availabe for the freelance modeller (no charge)
Usual extras: nuts, screws, wire, C-channel (K&S) etc.
Internal detailing - none, there being no room around the mechanism
Comprehensive instructions with kit drawings and photographs of the prototype will be included, including on a CD
All advice given in instructions on wheels, motor etc. (not supplied)
Custom etched floor pan at no cost to suit alternative motors etc.
For those not acquainted with the prototype, the "O scale" model of the trolley is some 40mm long and 30mm wide and is about 40mm
high from track level. The trailer is about the same length and only 25mm wide. The gauge is 16.5mm.
