Steam And Things sometimes have a request for producing etches only (especially body sides and ends), of some of our kits, as an aid to scratch building.
This we will certainly look at on specific request, as all of our kits are available as 'body only' etches.

We are a bespoke custom etcher and kit producer. We do everything in house, from art-work and masters to finished product, be that in the form of castings, etching or a complete kit. We even print our own decals using an ALPS printer which can print white or gold.

Since we do our own etching, we see our seconds! But they do not go into our kits and over time we can accumulate rejects or seconds. We are able to sell these on an as is basis for the cost of the raw materials and production cost. Often our rejects are just badly stained.

Generally the seconds we have are from our early kits only, and of course include body sides and ends:

But if you wish to consider buying parts from us, even those not listed, please contact us and tell us what you're after. We will look into our "reject box", to see what's lurking in the depths. Obviously......we cannot guarantee to have what you require! But as of this date, generally pickings are rather low except for that above with repsect to sides and ends.

We will give an honest appraisal and description of the etch, what is actually included and why we rejected it - rather like Mr. John West of tinned fish fame !

Kit development test builds: these are the various part built kits and models you see gracing our pages. They are either in virgin brass or more recently in photographic grey.(We are not referring to our fully finished and painted models, some of which are available RTR ).

The test builds are simply using up space on our shelves, gathering dust and sometimes being scavenged for parts!

If you are interested in one, please ask, and if we still have it, we will give an account of it's condition etc., being sold on an as is basis. You can then decide. Note however, they are only really suitable for putting into paint stripper, taking apart and rebuilding. Ideal for the time rich (scratch building) modeller, who cannot justify purchase of a complete new kit.
